Jewish life in Erfurt
In Erfurt there are still many signs of Jewish life which, when taken together, throw light on the particular history of the Jewish community since the Middle Ages.
The "Jewish Life in Erfurt" network aims to highlight the connection between these individual elements and to make them accessible to observers.
Elements of the network are among others the Old, Small and New Synagogue. Thanks to continuing scholarly work the network "Jewish Life in Erfurt” is going to grow and incorporate even more elements: From 4th September 2011, the medieval Mikwe is open to the public. 58 gravestones of the medieval Jewish cemetery, flattened already during the Middle Ages, will be made accessible, adequately presented and preserved. Since 2009 a nomination as UNESCO World Heritage site has been prepared. More remainders of the medieval Jewish community are being scientifically analyzed and prepared to be part of the visitor’s experience.
